Who are we
looking for?

We want people who are passionate about pets. You don’t need previous business experience, to own and operate a dog care franchise but it sometimes helps. As to the rest, here are a few other key words: hard working, committed, self-starter, organised, positive outlook, good communication skills, works well with others, enjoys exercise, and lastly, you’ll have a good sense of humour.

We want people who want to succeed, who won’t miss the traffic getting to work, who are up for some fun working from home and who would like to earn £25,000 -£60,000+ per annum.

Changing lives
Our story
At the heart of MyWaggyTails are much loved pets, really great people and our families, each with our own story and experiences to share.

Collectively, we have much to contribute, and we can all learn from each other. Here’s a bit of the MyWaggyTails back-story.

After the early demands of family life and primary schooling, Mitch wanted to return to work, but with her husband Phil away for weeks at a time and the demands of family life, she needed to find something that kept her mind and body active but still allowed for family flexibility.

From those early conversations, our MyWaggyTails pet care franchise was born and Mitch opened the MyWaggyTails doors in March 2017. After 18 months, she was hitting £35k of annual sales and that was from a standing start.

Our personal approach results in happy dogs and delighted owners, who see great value in our ‘happy home from home’ formula, whether for unexpected emergencies or holidays in the sun. ‘Word-of-mouth’ referrals from clients and business from ‘regulars’ makes life easier and has been key to growing our successful business.

I’m proud to say I’ve been able to build a business around one of the loves of my life.

Getting started with a doggy day care franchise

Understanding the numbers.

Costs
The costs fall loosely into two areas:-
1. The franchise fee – There are two types of franchises available, subject to your personal circumstances and preference.
2 Your own annual operational and marketing costs (we will talk you through this based on our experience).

Sales
Depending on the type of dog-care business you want to establish, your annual sales figures could be:

£25k (Y1); £35k (Y2); £50k+ (Y3+)

The upper number is only limited by the type of franchise, the number of dogs you care for and how you optimise your possible pet care franchise services, and the Year 1 number is dependent upon how quickly you launch and establish your business.

If you do your own modelling based on MyWaggyTails Chinnor’s prices, you get a sense of the possible. And we’ will definitely want to ’sensitivity test’ your assumptions and aspirations to ensure there are no nasty surprises. We should add that there isn’t a national pricing structure for MyWaggyTails. Local markets require dynamic pricing that reflect local competitive forces. The only thing we avoid, is undercutting other local MyWaggyTails business owners.

1. Understanding the costs of a dog franchise

Our 5 Year franchise fee
Our franchise fee = £7,750 + VAT (£9,300 inc VAT)
This covers the first 5 years, payable up-front, on contract exchange.
(A lifetime franchise fee is available on request)

Years 5-10 franchise fee (optional)
You can renew your pet-care franchise 5 years later, at a preferential rate (subject to meeting transparent performance criteria).

2. Our first 10 dog franchises: home boarding, doggy day-care, dog walking and pet home visits can benefit from our Special Offer
There’ll never be a better time to be part of MyWaggyTails

25% off our standard dog care franchise fees
There are two types of franchises available, subject to your personal circumstances and preference:-

MyWaggyTails Lite – includes dog walking and home visiting for pets franchising only. Our franchise fee will include a 25% discount = £2,499 + VAT

MyWaggyTails – includes doggy day-care, home boarding, home visits and dog walking. Our franchise fee will include a 25% discount = £6,200 + VAT

Our franchise fee will include a 25% discount = £1999 + VAT

MyWaggyTails – includes doggy day-care, home boarding, home visits and dog walking.
Our franchise fee will include a 25% discount = £4999 + VAT

3. Annual operating costs

These are all under your control.

  • Contribution to transport, insurance (Year 2 onwards), local authority licensing, fuel, heating, light, mobile phone, incidentals, computer and Internet.
  • Part-time assistant – optional
  • MyWaggyTails annual marketing costs – optional
  • MyWaggyTails annual online transactional fees – optional

4. Growing your dog care franchise business

The revenues you can generate from MyWaggyTails dog care franchise are dependent on your type of operation, location, local pricing sensitivity and competition, hard work and personality (people still love people), the number of dogs you can board, day care, independent walks, home visits for other pet services and whether you grow a network of home hosts or develop a dog grooming side to your business. In short, there is bags of potential, but every situation is unique.

FAQs

Any questions?

Don’t worry, you wouldn’t be human if you didn’t have questions, and concerns.

Download the MyWaggyTails Business Prospectus to hopefully answer some of your questions. If, after reading the Prospectus you’re interested in further information, we give you a number of options to consider.

It’s just as important that we’re both right for each other. A successful partnership is built on compatibility, trust and respect. It’s best we get any doubts out of the way up front, then we can focus on the things that are most important, running a successful business that’s profitable, pain-free and fun.

On the right are a couple of questions from our experience you might like answering now…

Can anyone become a MyWaggyTails franchisee?

No! There are a number of key considerations that go into finding the right partners, both for MyWaggyTails and for you.

We have to be selective. We want to look after our franchise partners properly, so currently we are limiting ourselves to a maximum of 8 new pet care franchise partners/quarter.

Can we launch a dog franchise or doggy day care franchise ourselves?

Anything is possible.  But a MyWaggyTails dog franchise is planned, designed and priced to take away the pain, minimise risk and increase the likelihood of your success. If it was just a walk in the park, you’d immediately know how all this legislation might impact you…

  • Animal Health Act 1981
  • Animal Welfare Act 2006
  • The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018
  • Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
  • The Control of Dogs Order 1992
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002
  • Controlled Waste Regulations 1992
  • Dangerous Dogs Act 1991
  • Data Protection Act 2018
  • Dog Fouling – Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005
  • Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • ePrivacy regulations
  • Health Act 2006
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • The Animal Welfare Regulations 2018
  • The Microchipping of Dogs (England) Regulations 2015
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
  • Planning and Environmental Protection Act
  • Regulation on the Protection of Animals During Transport (EC) 1/2005
  • The Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997
  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Town and Country Planning Act 1990
  • Welfare of Animals (Transport)(England) Order 2006
  • Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
  • Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

And that’s before you worry about marketing and operations. So, our counsel (yes we’re slightly biased) is what have you got to lose by talking further with us?

What now for your dog franchise?

  • Click on this MyWaggyTails Application Form link, start filling in the details, and tell us why you think you’re right to run a MyWaggyTails pet care business – you can save your form at any time and there is no obligation to proceed. And after that?

From receipt of your Franchise Application Form, we aim to have processed your information and had an initial detailed meeting with you, within 3-4 weeks of receipt, diaries permitting.

Subject to our respective views after that initial meeting, we will share drafts of all the outstanding paperwork (Franchise Disclosure Document and our Franchise Agreement).

Thereafter there will be another interview and a visit to you at home to go through things in more depth and check against our key environment criteria – we will happily provide you a list in advance.

After that, if we’re hopefully both in agreement, you can be up and running in as little as 5 weeks from signing our franchise agreement.

And of course, there is a ‘bit’ of training, face to face, online, self-study and 3rd party courses as we help you on your journey and ensure you can safely operate your pet care franchise business and comply with various laws and regulations, both before and after you open your doors.

Much later on, subject to quality and performance assessments, at the end of your 5-year franchise, you will have first option to renew it for a further 5 years.

So, it could take 2-3 months for the whole process including ‘initial ‘on-boarding’ and training. You can see why we only want to hear from people who share our passion, dedication and long-term goals.
